Unit 8 - Rational Functions
Section outline
-
Description of Unit: This topic expands students’ understandings and skills related to rational functions, equations, and graphs. Students will identify and describe inverse and direct variation functions; graph asymptotes of rational functions; identify whether a rational function has an asymptote; differentiate between vertical, horizontal, and oblique asymptotes, and define the domains of simplified rational expressions to make them equivalent to the originals
Key Vocabulary: branch, combined variation, complex fraction, continuous graph, discontinuous graph, inverse variation, joint variation, non-removable discontinuity, oblique asymptote, point of discontinuity, rational equation, rational expression, rational function, reciprocal function, removable discontinuity, and simplest form.
