Essay - Unit 2 Final Assessment

This assignment is to assess your ability to make a claim and support it by text-based evidence.  You will be using the Cesar Chavez Commonwealth Address, 1984, specifically paragraphs 20-29, to establish your claim and locate supporting evidence.  You will make a claim which has two supporting points.

For example, "Chavez argues there are there have been terrible environment damages caused and the growers are to blame."

Once you have established your claim with two points, you must identify a minimum of 8 pieces of evidence to support your claim (direct text) which can be cited.  This information should be identified on the ORGANIZING EVIDENCE BASED CLAIMS graphic organizer (prewrite).

Following completion of this form, you may complete the ESSAY OUTLINE (Google Doc) to help with the writing process.  Build your sentences and transitions on this outline, including the introductory paragraph, body paragraphs and conclusion paragraph.  This is a four-paragraph essay and you must include transitions between sentences and paragraphs.

When your ESSAY OUTLINE is complete, move on to the ROUGH DRAFT.  Use MLA format to write a 4-paragraph essay explaining your claim and evidence, analyzing the text.  This is an argumentative essay, meaning you are trying to convince the reader to see your side point and using convincing evidence to do so.  This should not be about your personal opinion (no I, me, my, type words or I think, I believe).  Conventions of Grammar do count, so be sure to work on spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, organization of paragraphs, etc.  Be sure to include paragraph, line # with quotations from the text.  Name the file.

After having another peer edit your rough draft, make any necessary revisions, corrections.  Make a copy, title this as your FINAL DRAFT - UNIT 2 FINAL ASSESSMENT.  Make sure this is your best yet.  I will be grading this for word choice, ideas, grammar, organization, presentation (SIX TRAITS).  When you are happy, submit.
