Section outline

  • Description of Unit:  This topic builds on the student’s understanding and skills related to angles and triangles.  Students will visualize the triangles placed on top of each other; use tick marks and angle marks to label corresponding angles; use SSS, SAS, ASA postulates, and AAS and HL theorems; and use definitions to categorize triangles.

Key Vocabulary:  base angles of an isosceles triangle, base of an isosceles triangle, hypotenuse, legs of an isosceles triangle, legs of a right triangle, vertex angle of an isosceles triangle.

    Common Core Content Standards:

    G-CO.C.10 Prove theorems about triangles.

G-CO.D.12 Make formal geometric constructions with a variety of tools and methods (compass and straightedge, string, reflective devices, paper folding, dynamic geometric software, etc.).

G-CO.D.13 Construct an equilateral triangle, a square, and a regular hexagon inscribed in a circle.

G-SRT.B.5 Use congruence and similarity criteria for triangles to solve problems and to prove relationships in geometric figures.
